Here at STS Ltd we recognise that the construction sector has a detrimental impact on the environment due to the exploitation of finite raw materials and energy intensive practices which release CO₂ emissions into the atmosphere. Although modern living is dependent on buildings, the construction industry is driving vast quantities of resource depletion at a rate that is harmful to our planet. As a manufacturer of tiling supplies, we acknowledge that when our products are produced with consideration for the environment we can contribute towards sustainable cities and communities. Hence, as a company we are taking our corporate social responsibility seriously by applying the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to our business practices. The ethos of our sustainability movement is ‘people, product, planet’. Through this we commit to measuring our social and environmental impact alongside our financial performance:

People – as a company we invest in people to improve their wellbeing and prosperity, both personally and in the communities they serve. This includes supporting charities in every continent, every year. Our most recent campaign was in aid of the crisis relief efforts in Ukraine.

Product – we are committed to making our products and packaging more sustainable, together with improving our supply chain, transportation methods and ultimately aiming to operate as a closed loop system where no material is sent to landfill. Currently we are focused on increasing the quantity of recycled content in all our packaging and reducing the volume of material used per order.

Planet – we believe in proactively protecting our planet and are driven by the set of actions required to reach our goal of becoming Net Zero Carbon by 2050. Thus far we have taken several steps to reduce our impact on the environment. Some examples of this include switching to electric powered forklift trucks, installing EV charging points for commuter vehicles, and ensuring our offices are run to an energy efficient standard.

Ultimately, buildings are long-lived, their effects will be felt by future generations where concerns around pollution levels and resource scarcity arise. By consciously considering the environment in our practices we can reduce the emissions associated with buildings and mitigate climate change effects. We know we are not alone in this journey, and our unique position as a wholesaler with strong relationships with both suppliers and merchants is key to driving change on an industry basis. We look forward to collaborating with our fellow industry experts and pioneering a future of change.
